Siskiyou County is located in the far northernmost part of the U.S. state of California. The County seat is Yreka. Because of its substantial natural beauty, outdoor recreation opportunities, and Gold Rush era history, it is an important tourist destination within the state. While it ranks 5th in area among California counties, with some 6,347 square miles, it only ranked 44th in population among California’s 58 counties (44,301residents).The County is geographically diverse, from towering Mount Shasta to lakes and dense forests, as well as desert, chaparral, and waterfalls.
